Cape Town

Table Mountain

This Iconic landmark is a flat topped mountain that stands 1,000 metres above sea level and is the most popular attraction in Cape Town. If you’re feeling brave you can trek to the top along one of the many routes or make use of the cable car – although it is weather dependent.

V&A Waterfront

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is located in the heart of Cape Town’s harbour and offers you a range of restaurants, shops and hotels. Surrounded by the impressive marina, you can listen to live music and grab something to eat while watching the boats come in with Table Mountain as the backdrop.

Long Street

If you want to experience Cape Town’s exciting and famous nightlife, then head for Long Street. Located in City Bowl, it is the main hangout for backpackers and travellers looking to party. The street is lined with bars, restaurants, clubs and quirky shops.

Boulders Beach

Cape Town may have no shortage of amazing beaches, but Boulders Beach in False Bay offers something extra special – a colony of African Penguins! With between 2,000 and 3,000 birds currently calling the beach home, you can get up close walking along the designated boardwalks and admire their cute waddling ways!

Robben Island

This Unesco World Heritage Site is a small island located in Table Bay that until recently (1996) was used as a prison. Now preserved as a memorial to those that spent many years incarcerated there (including Nelson Mandela), you can take a 4 hour tour that includes walking through the old prison and seeing Mandela’s cell and lots more.

Camps Bay

If you’re looking to spend some time relaxing in the sun then head to Camps Bay. This upmarket bay draws crowds for its fine white sand, natural rock swimming pools with crystal clear waters and views of the Twelve Apostles. There are many posh restaurants, mellow cafes and cocktail bars that overlook the promenade – heaven!

Along The Garden Route

Gansabaai

Gansbaai is a small town that has been made famous for being one of the best places in the world to cage dive with great white sharks. Seeing these majestic sharks up close underwater in ‘shark alley’ or even from the boat is a once in a lifetime experience. Trips leave daily from Cape Town or you can make your own way there, just be prepared for an early start!

Cape Agulhas

Not only is Cape Agulhas the most southernly point in South Africa, but it is also where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Leisurely walk along the boardwalks admiring the views and looking out for the many tortoises, take a photo of the landmark point where the 2 oceans meet and climb the lighthouse. Afterwards, head down to the harbour to have some delicious sea food in the restaurant and maybe see some stingrays!

Knysna

A great stopping place along the Garden Route, Knysna has many activities to do! Cruise the lagoon on a ferry or kayak, explore the indigenous forests by foot or bike, indulge in local food at the numerous restaurants and have a leisurely stroll around the harbour. While here, make sure to check out the viewing point of the Knysna Heads!

Plettenberg Bay

One of the best places in South Africa to go whale watching, you may be lucky enough to see Southern right whales, humpback whales and dolphins too. Be sure to visit the Robberg Nature Reserve, that is a rocky peninsula with trails that provide amazing views and is currently home to many seals! Also a magnet for surfers.

Tsitsikamma Park

Encompassing a marine reserve, deep gorges and many beautiful walking trails, Tsitsikamma Nature Park has it all! Cross the suspension bridge over Storms River or even kayak up the gorge to truly experience the natural beauty on offer! While walking, keep an eye out for the otters!

Safari

You cannot come to South Africa and not go on a safari! Home to the famous Big Five and lots of other wildlife, this is your perfect chance to see so many amazing animals up close. There are many safari tours available along the Garden Route, offering 1 day or more packages, but please research the reserve before you go.
