Points Of Interest

Kandy

Kandy is the culture capital of Sri Lanka and hosts several important temples, including the Temple of the Tooth Relic – one of Buddhism’s most sacred shrines. History and culture are on tap, as well as some amazing views of the surrounding green hills and vibrant colourful houses. Be sure to watch a cultural dance show when visiting.

Galle

A Unesco World Heritage Site, Galle is a historic walled city that is a delight to explore on foot. Along the rambling lanes you’ll see Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and grand mansions and you’ll have to stop at some of the stylish cafes and quirky shops. Unawatuna beach is close by and has a great nightlife.

Ella

Everyone’s favourite hill-country village, Ella has amazing views across the lush green rolling hills that are full of tea plantations and waterfalls. Walk along the train tracks and across the famous Nine Arch bridge and admire the scenery from the many viewpoints.

ACTIVITIES

Yala National Park

If you want to see some wildlife, then you should head to the most famous national park in Sri Lanka – Yala National Park. You’re almost certain to encounter elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes, monkeys and so much more! If you’re lucky, you may come across the elusive Sri Lankan Leopard (Yala has the highest density of leopards) or even a sloth bear.

Adams Peak

Adam’s Peak is Sri Lanka’s highest mountain and is a sacred spot for Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians. Also known as Sri Pada (Scared Footprint) because of the large indentation at the summit,  the 4,800 steps to the top are undertaken by people of all ages and takes around 2-3 hours. As it is a religious site, make sure to wear appropriate clothing.

Sigiriya - Lion Rock

Rising proud from the central plains, this huge rock is probably Sri Lanka’s most dramatic sight. On your way to the top, you’ll have to climb a series of staircases and pass a pair of colossal lion’s paws and many fascinating murals. The water gardens, moats and cave shrines that surround the rock only add to the appeal.
